A rooftop terrace and half the roof of a building on Hackney Road were destroyed in a fire believed to have started accidentally.
London Fire Brigade were called to the scene at 7.53am.
The incident took place on Hackney Road between the junction of Shoreditch High Street and Cremer Street.
Firefighters battled the flames from above using one of the brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders as a water tower.
The fire was brought under control by 8.47am.
A spokesperson said: "Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire at a shop with flats above on Hackney Road in Hackney.
"A rooftop terrace was destroyed by fire, as well as half of the roof of the building.
"There were no reports of any injuries."
Although the fire is believed to have started accidentally, the exact cause remains undetermined due to the unstable roof structure.
