A man has been shot dead in a vehicle in East Ham.

The victim, believed to be in his 40s, was found with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle on St Bartholomews after emergency services responded to reports of gunshots at 3am this morning (August 18). 

Despite efforts by officers and medical teams from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, with no arrests made at this stage. 

DCI Dan Whitten said: "Firstly, our thoughts remain with the friends and family of the man who has sadly died.

"We know this incident will cause concern in the local area, and I want to reassure the community that my team and I are doing everything we can to determine what happened and trace those responsible."

A crime scene remains in place, with an increased police presence expected throughout the day.
